Three nights is the most common length of the trips we are asked to arrange. It is enough to see Marrakech properly. It is not enough to do everything, and most itineraries online pretend otherwise.
Here is the shape we suggest most often, and why.
The principle: one strong thing a day
The medina is walked slowly, it is hot for much of the year, and driving distances are longer than they look. An itinerary stacking three activities a day ends as a race. We put in one, sometimes two if one of them is short.
Day 1 — The medina, on foot
Arrive, settle, and see the city on foot. A guided medina walk in the morning or late afternoon gives you the bearings you lack on arrival: which lanes lead where, what you are looking at in a souk, how a square works after dark.
Nothing scheduled in the evening. Jemaa el-Fna fills up by itself and is better discovered without a timetable.
Day 2 — Out of the city
This is the day that separates a city break from a real trip. Two options, depending on what you are after.
- The Agafay desert in the late day: leave mid-afternoon, sunset on site, dinner, back in the evening. The morning stays free.
- The Ourika valley or the Atlas as a full day: leave in the morning, back in the late afternoon. Nothing else fits that day, and that is fine.
What we do not recommend: both. You would spend the day in a car.
Day 3 — Slower, and something you do with your hands
A cooking class in the morning — you leave with a recipe and lunch — or a pottery workshop, or a tasting walk through the medina. In the afternoon, a hammam, or simply a pool.
It is the day people cut first and the one they write to us about afterwards.

What to accept you will not do
- The Sahara. Eight to ten hours each way: that is a different trip.
- Essaouira as a day trip. Three hours out, three back, two hours there. Not worth it in three days.
- Three monuments and two gardens in one day. You will pass through them rather than see them.
And if you have four days?
The fourth day is the one we add most gladly: it lets you keep Agafay as a Day 2 evening and add a full day in the mountains — or simply plan nothing. An empty day inside a four-day trip is not wasted time.
