Agafay and the dunes around Merzouga are different places. Agafay is a stone landscape near Marrakech. Erg Chebbi, near Merzouga, has the sand dunes many travellers picture when they think of the Sahara.
Choose the scenery first
For a break during a Marrakech stay, consider Agafay. If walking among large dunes is your main wish, plan a journey farther south. Dune photography does not describe Agafay.

Ask for the exact location and journey plan. For a Sahara itinerary, review each stage and daily driving time with the organiser before deciding the length of your trip. A travel-time estimate needs a departure point and a route.
