Search for "Agafay dinner" and you will find offers from about thirty euros to over two hundred. They all describe the same evening: transfer, sunset, dinner under canvas, return. The difference is not in the description. It is in what the description leaves out.
Here are the six questions that explain the price gap. Ask them of anybody, including us.
1. Is the transfer private or shared?
This is by far the biggest price difference. A shared minibus collects six to fifteen people from several riads: expect an hour of pickups before you even leave the city. A private transfer leaves from your door and goes straight to the camp.
Neither is "better". But a thirty-euro offer is almost always shared, and it is worth knowing beforehand.
2. How long do you actually get on site?
Ask for the pickup time and the estimated return, then subtract the drive — forty-five minutes to an hour each way. What is left is your evening. Some packages leave three hours on site; others barely last past dinner.
3. Which camp, exactly?
Agafay has dozens of camps, from simple bivouacs to lodges with a pool. The camp's name is a fair thing to ask for: it lets you go and look at it before you say yes.
4. What does "dinner" mean here?
- Set menu or a choice? Most serve a single menu.
- Drinks included? Often water and tea only.
- Dietary requirements catered for — vegetarian, gluten-free, no pork? Say so when booking, not on the day.
- Is dinner served before or after sunset? It changes the whole rhythm of the evening.
5. What costs extra?
Camel rides, quad bikes, buggies and sometimes live music are frequently sold separately. Ask for the total price of what you actually want to do, not the headline price.
6. What happens if it rains?
Agafay is a stone desert: when it rains the tracks get difficult and some camps postpone. Ask whether the outing runs, moves or is refunded — and who decides.
